Essence of Thyme College of Holistic Studies (EOTCHS) offers online, internationally recognized aromatherapy certification programs and courses.
Co-principals Colleen Thompson and Dr. Kelly Ablard are dedicated to supporting every student in the EOTCHS aromatherapy program. Each student receives personal case study and research paper mentors, along with bi-weekly Office Hours for individualized attention and feedback. Monthly Open Forums led by Colleen and Kelly foster discussion, idea exchange, and networking in a respectful environment. Monthly lectures introduce students to key figures in aromatherapy. EOTCHS encourages students to build a global network of aromatherapists, contributing CAD 30.00 towards professional association membership and providing a one-year subscription to Blend Precisely or Dropsmart.
The Professional Certification Program in Aromatherapy and Essential Oil Science is approximately 350 hours in length and includes 50 essential oil monographs, 10 carrier oils, 9 CO2 extracts taught by Madeleine Kerkhof, and 11 hydrosols taught by Ann Harman.
Graduates from this program can join these international associations at these levels:
Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA) – Professional Aromatherapist (level 2)
National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) Certified Professional (level 2)
Canadian Alliance of Aromatherapy (CAOA) - Professional Aromatherapist (PA) (level 2)
International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA) – Full Member
The Gold Standard Diploma Program in Aromatherapy, Essential Oil Science, and Research integrates the Professional Certification Program and the Certified Master Aromatherapist Certification Program. Completion of the Professional Certification Program is a prerequisite for the Certified Master Aromatherapy Program which delves deeper into covered topics and introduces an additional 50 essential oils, 16 carrier oils, 18 CO2 extracts, and 7 hydrosols. The Gold Standard Program is approximately 690 hours.
The Certified Master Aromatherapy Program focuses on essential oil science and research, including instruction on reading and critically evaluating research papers and preparing for specialized careers in advanced aromatherapy. To help students create their niche, they are given the choice of one of five short certification courses, each lasting between 50 to 60 hours. They include teacher training, animal aromatherapy, aromatherapy in palliative care, herbalism, and skincare research, design, and creation. Short courses are taught by experts in each subject area.
Upon completing the Gold Standard Diploma Program in Aromatherapy, Essential Oil Science, and Research, graduates gain access to prestigious memberships in prominent international associations. These include the CAOA, where they can attain the titles of Registered Aromatherapist (RA®) and Essential Oil Therapist (EOT®) at Level 3, and the CFA, offering the designation of Certified Aromatherapy Health Professional (CAHP®) at Level 3. Additionally, graduates can join the AIA as an Advanced Practice Clinical Aromatherapist at Level 3 or become a Certified Clinical Aromatherapist at Level 3 with NAHA. Furthermore, they qualify for full membership with IFPA and professional membership with the NZROHA. These affiliations empower graduates with recognition and opportunities within the aromatherapy community worldwide.
Essence of Thyme College of Holistic Studies’ Short Certification Courses are for anyone! These include the Animal Aromatherapy Certification Course and The Foundation of Herbalism Energetic Herbalism Certification Course.
